A Morning of Fences, Weather, and Quiet Roads
Just recently, my days off changed, and I was up and out early to catch some of the beautiful clouds and atmosphere beginning to set up along the Front Range. I made my way to the area around Castlewood Canyon, just southeast of Castle Rock. It had been a minute since I was last there, but this location turned out to be the right choice.
The skies were fresh from overnight rain, and I could already tell it was going to be a beautiful sunrise. Castlewood is a Colorado State Park, and I was the only one there taking in the start of this gorgeous day. Not even the rangers were there to interrupt the silence.
I found my way to the Bridge Trail, hoping to catch the indirect sunrise behind the bridge. Sure enough, God delivered. Being a Christian, I couldn’t help but think of Psalm 19:
“The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.
Day after day they continue to speak;
night after night they make him known.
They speak without a sound or word;
their voice is never heard.
Yet their message has gone throughout the earth,
and their words to all the world.”—Psalm 19:1–4, NLT
After that, I kept making my way through the area and stopping when something caught my attention. Between the changing weather, a birdhouse, horses in a pasture, ponds holding the sky, and a few weathered barns behind old fences, there was more to see than I expected.
