The Shared Witness
I thought I was alone.
When I’m behind the lens, there is often this illusion of exclusivity—a feeling that the dialogue between the light and the earth is a private conversation I’ve been invited to document. But when I got home and pulled this frame up on the screen, I was startled.
There, tucked into the cold blue shadows of the foreground, was a man I never even saw through the viewfinder.
At first, it was jarring to realize I didn't have the "exclusive" on the moment. But the more I looked at him, the more it felt like a nudge. This scene was special with or without him, but his presence changed the story from a simple landscape into a meditation on the Designer.
We often fall into the trap of thinking we are the only ones God is connecting with in a moment of beauty. The reality is much bigger. It speaks to an omnipresent nature: He is pursuing all of us by whatever means He needs to get our attention.
He was reaching that man in the silence of the shadows, and He was reaching me through the glass of my camera—all differently, and all at the same time.
