Observations from Cheyenne Canyon
The Railroad
Railroad tracks are a rigid, man-made idea of movement through a landscape. They don’t ask permission; they just cut through. But even the most stubborn steel eventually yields to the weeds and the weather.
The Bridge and Stream
The stream goes where it wants, not bound by man-made ideas of efficiency or direction. Here, the relationship is reversed: the stone bridge is forced to concede to the water’s path, submitting to a flow it cannot contain.
The Fog
Fog is the common element that connects these scenes. It adds a physical weight and mystery that levels the playing field. Whether it is resting on rusted steel, stacked stone, or the pines, the mist does not care about the difference between what we built and what was already there.
