The Oasis Next Door
Garden of the Gods has a way of recalibrating you. No matter what time of day you enter the park, there is a specific corner you turn where the scale of the place finally hits you. It’s an oasis just a few miles from the busyness of downtown, but once you’re in the valley, the city feels like another world.
I’ve stood in this spot many times—sometimes in shared silence with my wife, and other times just observing people enjoying the park and each other. Whether it’s walking the dogs or just standing in awe, everyone seems to recognize the same thing: this place provides a shelter from the craziness of our world.
Standing here, completely surrounded by these ancient centerpieces, you start to feel smaller. Not in a way that diminishes you, but in a way that lets you see you’re just one piece of a much bigger story. It’s a place to catch your breath and remember what it feels like to be in awe.
